*NOTE: This is old. Like really old. Both the game and FRep have gone through many, many patches and I have stopped playing so I simply don't know how accurate this guide is anymore. My honest opinion is that if you're fairly tech savvy this guide will get you to a point where you can figure out how to make it work for you (it really is/was amazing just how much I could do, particularly having contingencies when things go wrong and getting back o track). For everyone else serious about trying this: MAKE A BASIC MACRO USING THE FREE VERSION. If you feel comfortable enough after that, then go ahead and buy the full version and make crazy specific macros. JUST BE AWARE A LOT OF INFO IN THIS GUIDE IS OUTDATED, LIKELY INACCURATE, AND I PROBABLY CAN'T HELP YOU. Having said that, feel free to PM me with any questions. If I can help, I will, but don't count on it. I CAN NO LONGER VOUCH FOR THIS APP NOR CAN I, IN GOOD CONSCIENCE, RECOMMEND PAYING FOR IT..BUT.. if it's anything like it was when I used it, it will change your FFBE life for the better.

Typical disclaimer: Although Gumi said it's fine, use at your own risk and be careful, they might make macros ban-able someday, even though many of us agree it would be foolish, even from a business perspective(It's keeping us crazy min/maxers and/or whalers playing their game. I mean c'mon..). Anyways..

I use FRep for TM farming Earth Shrine and am absolutely in love with it(unlocked version - 4.54 USD). This app replays finger motions without needing to root your phone so you can run macros on your phone over night, while you're at work, or wherever you are without fear, because your phone is always near! The ability to do an image check before moving on to the next list of actions is a godsend. You will never misclick and you can prepare for any problems(overnight daily quest completion, friend requests, etc.). Only downside is it takes some serious time to set up properly(if you're tech savvy, however, it really shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes to install/set up. Perfecting your macros..that's a different story). I made a post about this recently and there was some interest so I decided to do my best at making a guide. Please note this is primarily for the unlocked/paid version. The free version is good enough to make a good macro for ES runs, and you can use some of the information in this guide(primarily the set-up) to get you going, but unlocking it will give you enough 'traces'(only get 3 in free version) to do unlimited image checks, as well as many other great options.

DISCLAIMER: I've never written a guide in my life. I tried my best to be thorough and informative without rambling, but there's a good chance I didn't succeed in either. Be warned..

Ok let's get started. Please note this app is only for Android phones and tablets, I'm playing around with a way to get it to work with MEmu, but so far have had issues with getting the input to work properly. If at any point things go wrong that I didn't account for, they have a pretty good troubleshooting guide on their homepage: http://strai.x0.com/frep/ If you'd rather use them as your guide, follow the install instructions on their site and skip ahead to my demo macro specifically for FFBE. Alright, assuming you've downloaded FRep on your phone from the Google Play store(do so now if you haven't), step one is to get your phone to access 'developer options' and allow USB debugging. Note:Different Android phones have different settings layout, you might have to look a little bit for these options, but they are there in settings)

Setting up FRep

  1. In your Android, open Settings from notification bar or from app list, then tap 'About device' ('About phone' or 'About tablet' or maybe just 'About').

  2. In the device information list, tap Build number item 7 times. You should receive a message saying 'you are now a developer' or something to that effect, which allows you access developer options.

  3. Allow USB debugging, which is under Settings > Developer Options -> Debugging -> USB debugging. While you're here, it's worth looking around at the other options. I recommend turning on 'show touches' after you have made your macro and are testing it, so you can see exactly what is happening if a screen touch goes wrong.

  4. Open the app on your phone. It should say that the service is 'not running'. This is ok and it is important to open the app before running the set-up tool.

  5. Go to your computer, plug in your phone via USB.

  6. For Windows, you need install the ADB driver (or shown as 'driver for developer') of your device for USB debugging connection. You may need to know your phone's exact model number. If so, My Computer > Right click your phone > Properties and your model will be listed there. Anyways, basically go here: https://developer.android.com/studio/run/oem-usb.html#Drivers and pick your phone's manufacturer, some of those links are direct to download site, some(like samsung) need to select your product and model number. Download and install 'usb driver'. Different companies have different descriptions, but if 'USB' and 'driver' are in the same file path, it's a safe bet that's the one you want. Alternatively, you can try this universal ADB driver which claims to work on all phones on all Windows versions: https://plus.google.com/103583939320326217147/posts/BQ5iYJEaaEH

Ok, are you still with me? It'll be worth it, I promise. Keep thinking of those sweet, sweet TM rewards.

Download the FRep set up tool.

  • Windows: http://strai.x0.com/frep/setup_win

  • Mac: http://strai.x0.com/frep/setup_mac

  • Linux: http://strai.x0.com/frep/setup_linux

If you're running Windows: simply extract(yes, ACTUALLY extract it, it won't work if you run it without unzipping) and run the batch file 'win'(or win.bat). The last line of the console that opens up should read 'server started'. Close the windows. You are done with your computer. Unplug and go somewhere else if you want. If it says 'No such file or directory', you didn't open the app on your phone like I said to. Do that and try again. Any other errors go here: http://strai.x0.com/frep/faq. Do not delete the extracted files, because unless your phone is rooted(and by all means, google how to do that, there are pros and cons and risks), you'll have to connect your phone and run 'win.bat' every time you're phone turns off/restarts.

  • for other OS: follow the instructions on respective link, I have windows so I have no experience with mac/linux

  • : On your phone, Switch ON “FRep Accessibility Service” in Android Settings -> Accessibility.

Using the app, recording and editing macros.

Take a breath, it's installed. Now let's get into the app, do some options and start making a farming macro. There are a lot of options that you can tweak to your own preference, but I will cover what I think are important ones. If I skip a setting, it means leave it default.

  1. Open the app. It should say Service Running. Yay! Top right, 3 dots, press > calibrate input. This isn't necessary for basic macros, but will future proof as it allows you to edit in swipes, long presses and double taps after recording. Follow the instructions, test the calibration. Redo it if it doesn't look right(doesn't need to be perfect).

  2. Back on app's home screen. Click options. Make sure the top two are checked.

  3. Rec/Play settings > Check everything except for 'default interruption'. Having that off means if you accidentally (or intentionally) touch your screen while the macro is running, the macro won't abort. Go back once to main options screen.

  4. System settings > Check start on boot if your phone is rooted. Check Save Screenshot. Screenshot method > Auto BMP(faster). Back to app home screen.

  5. Under record settings, select Progress and move the slider underneath all the way to the right(10 seconds).

Ok it's macro recording time. I'm just going to have you do exactly what I did when I made my Earth Shrine macro(*edit, this was my first macro, there's a better way that utilizes the 'repeat' button in game, I plan on updating or adding a part 2 to this guide at some point). When we're done, you will understand why I did things the way I did. This will save room and time as I won't be explaining every little thing as I do them(which was important when setting up, obviously).

Launch the game and make sure the little overlay/console is there, if not, swipe down the top of your phone and you should see 'FRep, tap to hide/show console'. It should say 'Rec' with a big red button since we haven't recorded anything yet. If not, tap the top half until you see that. Ensure the party you want is the defaulted party and go to world and tap earth shrine(where the options are exploration, exit and entrance). Here we go

*note: Since the most recent updates there are new screens, you will have to add one for the screen with the stars and level specific quests. It is not listed here but you should be able to figure it out easily enough, video coming soon that will make everything clearer.

  • Press record and then tap earth shrine - exit. Wait at least 10 seconds.

  • tap the first friend on your list. Wait at least 10 seconds.

  • tap depart. Wait at least 10 seconds.

  • tap the top mob that appears followed by 'auto'. Wait until the 2nd mob dies and the animation of it 'disappearing' begins. Tap auto again(disabling it), preferably while the chest is still there. Wait at least 10 seconds.

  • tap the top mob that appears followed by 'auto'. Wait at least 60(sixty!) seconds. You will complete the boss fight and be sitting on the xp/gil reward screen for some time.

It gives an effective solution to and reclaims the lost space to speed up your iPhone and get more apps, music, movies, photos to make your life wonderful. But it can only run on the Mac OS which iTunes is already installed. Best tool for cleaning mac. This tool can clean most iPhone junk files and customize your iPhone cleaning. With free version and satisfied cleaning effect, it is accepted by some iPhone users.

  • tap the left side of the screen 3-4 times quickly, wait a second, then press next. Wait at least 10 seconds :)

  • tap anywhere as quickly as you can and as many times as you can before the next screen starts to load(probably only going to get 2-3 taps). Guess what? Wait at least 10 seconds.

  • tap next and when you're back to the 'earth shrine' menu power off your screen.

Congrats, the foundation of your macro is complete. Now we just go in and tweak the image checks, and we're done. You'll have a macro that will run it over and over again. I'll explain after how to add 'wait' timers so you can have it run every 5 minutes(no NRG lost) or every 5.5 minutes(slow NRG gain) or whatever you want.

  • Turn your screen back on. Note the title/label and press 'save'.

  • Open FRep app, tap 'manage traces'.

  • Tap the FFBE icon on the 'trace' you just made, tap display/label > ensure Package is highlighted, tap apply.

  • Tap the trace > replay/repeat settings, tap the green arrow until the text says 'skip initial delay'. Set the repeat to some ungodly number you'll never reach. Ensure Package is highlighted, leave everything else default. Tap apply.

  • Tap the trace > edit sequence. You'll notice a numbered list of events.

  • Tap the 3rd one > edit control settings > edit image(on bottom). You will notice a blue-ish rectangle on this screenshot that you can adjust by using(normally) your index finger and thumb to shrink or expand, and then tap and drag to move it.

Chrome Cleanup Tool For Mac

From here on out, repeat and replicate my screenshots as close as you can for each step. Match the rectangle to where mine are. MAKE SURE YOU 'APPLY' the image check and MAKE SURE YOU APPLY AGAIN.

Step 3- 'back button' http://imgur.com/KC7n8wf

Step 5- 'select companion' http://imgur.com/zTRunbV(my overlay is in the way here, you can cover the whole phrase if you want)

*note: i use these buttons(back, filter) because FRep will be looking for an exact match. That means any transparency in the UI elements will result in a failed match. I originally tried matching with the 'earth shrine - exit' section and it failed every time. Maybe it's %.01 transparent? Idk, but trust me, i just saved you a headache on your basic TM macro.

Step 7- 'party #' http://imgur.com/fcpecFv (this one also ensure's your have the right party selected - no wasting time and NRG on 'oops, had the wrong party as my default')

for the next two battles, I find using the enemy health bar as an image check works great.(9 and 11 will be very similar)

Step 9- http://imgur.com/PxpdE2s

Step 11- http://imgur.com/POykhwt

this is where the long wait happened(in case you get kefka as a friend and he takes FOREVER for his LB to finish), I like to use the 'gil' as the match because that will trigger the few taps we did which will quicken the xp/gil counter.

Step 13- http://imgur.com/WaHdpBI

next I just throw the match check on the background. This is where we did as many taps as quickly as we can(in case someone levels up and gets abilities, etc.). In my real macro, I manually added a double tap here also just to be safe(hope you calibrated like i said!). When editing do '+ control' and add a 'touch' and there's literally a double tap option, hold and drag that element to this point.

Itool For Mac

Step 15- http://imgur.com/DWSdYJn

last one is simple, wait for the 'next' button to appear, tap the side of the screen a couple times (in case of mass treasure chests) and then tap 'next'. TA DA

Step 17- http://imgur.com/L55iAb1

FYI: feel free to delete #2(it's an orientation check), I wanted to make sure our numbers lined up before telling people to delete something so early on. I don't think it makes a difference as FFBE is always portrait, but personally, I deleted that step.

Free Tool For Making A Bootable Usb

I was redoing all these steps as I typed them out to make sure I remembered correctly. This is what I got when I ran the macro with the same exact steps I gave you: [removed for my privacy; might black out my name and re-upload] Did it work like mine? If so..

OMG YOU'RE DONE. Farm away. You can add extra time between commands for connection errors, it doesn't matter, once the image matches, that's when the macro runs, at every step. You get it? You could wait 5 minutes between commands if you're plagued by connection problems, but if it matches in 2 seconds it will run the next command. It gets better.

From here you can '+ control' and add a wait time to make the repeat take however long you want. If you want to check for the daily quest. Take a manual screen shot of the completion and use that. Image match the 'close' button, and under control settings of that image, make 'trials(rough)' only a few seconds, longer if you're worried about connection issues but MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE 'SKIP NEXT WAIT' TO BOTH SUCCESS AND FAIL AND ALSO 'FAIL(TIMEOUT):' TO NEXT. Otherwise every time you DON'T complete that quest the macro will abort. This is how you customize everything. It's all about when to 'next/abort' your 'success and fails' You can do an image check for a friend request the same way at the end. Just remember, that when you do checks for things that aren't likely('quest completion' and 'do you want to add this friend?') the wait time matters when those things DONT happen. IE if you do a 'Quest check' and it's a 60 second trial. If you didn't complete that quest you phone isn't doing a damn thing for 60 seconds. If that image check completes in 3 seconds, then it's immediately on to the next.

I don't write guides and I'm sure this sucked. I just hope there's at least 1 person out there that I helped. (it's also late and I've been drinking. But if you're reading this and you're a kid don't do that, it's stupid and stuff..)

Edit: I should really mention that in order to abort macros with the settings i gave, you can either change app(home screen, recent apps button, accepting pop-up notifications) or turn screen off. This also means you should be careful with pop ups. My S7 has a 'game mode' that disables alerts. You're android phone should at LEAST have a do not disturb setting that you can customize(maybe allow your boss's phone call to go through if you're at work, ya know?). I would recommend these things, Especially if you're running an overnight macro, nothing like a Facebook game invite to pop up over a recorded 'press' and have the app change abort your macro.

Screenshot Tool For Mac

Edit 2: If specific instructions are needed to check for connection errors and other unexpected popups, please leave a comment and ill work on a detailed solution. It's all about adding 'wait image' or as I've been calling them, image checks, and throwing them every time a connection error could possibly occur, having an appropriate 'trial ' or 'wait' time, and having both success and fail result in 'next'. If screenshots and the like help I'm happy to do it. If you happen to have an s7 or s7 edge and live in the U.S.(different countries have different input software) I can actually send you the full macro in 1 file!

Edit 3: Ok, about the free version. If you want to use that you can, you will lose the ability to check for 'quest completion' or friend request box or anything. To make one using free version. You will need to select 'simple' in record settings on main menu. When you record the macro, just take everything nice and slow, you don't have to wait the full 10 seconds, but just don't rush through your steps, this is for load time variations. I still strongly suggest waiting a good while when you're on the gil/xp reward screen, especially if you have auto limit burst on, that can change how long the fights last by a lot. Then when you get to material rewards, tap a bunch of times on the side and wait a few seconds before hitting next(this is for in case of character level ups and new abilities that you need to tap through). Once back to earth shrine menu, turn off phone. Now you have your macro in one long step. From here, go into FRep > manage traces, Tap the macro > adjust interval as sequence, tap CANCEL, tap start loop > delete it, you should now just have 1 step, tap + control(bottom right), input how long you want wait in between repeats(at least a few seconds), tap 'next' after 'on finish', select return, apply, save, go back to 'manage traces' screen, tap your new macro (yellow block) > replay/repeat settings, input how many repeats you want. Apply, save. Should be good to go, if I remember my free macro correctly. You can still add an image check at the beginning(I think), which is a good idea to prevent your macro from running all over the place if you mess up a timing.
